Life Skills Development

Life Skills Development

Hands-on coaching that builds real-world skills where you use them: cooking, budgeting, planning your week, travel and making decisions. Support gradually steps back as your confidence grows. Goals connect with your NDIS plan, progress is reviewed with you, and skills are practised in real places wherever possible, not just talked about.

Life Skills Development

Life skills support in Brisbane, practised in everyday life

Life skills development is most useful when practice connects with real routines and real decisions. The aim is not to turn every task into a lesson, but to create practical opportunities for the participant to try, repeat, solve problems and build confidence at a pace that makes sense for them. See our full range of supports or get support to discuss your goals.

What it can look like

Building a skill, step by step

For example, a participant who wants to manage their own grocery budget might start by planning a list with a worker, then shopping together and later shopping independently, with a quick check-in afterwards.

  1. 1 Goal broken into small steps
  2. 2 Practice in real places
  3. 3 Support reduced as skills grow

Example only. The right arrangement depends on the participant’s goals, circumstances, funding where relevant, suitability, availability and what Bright Heart Co can confirm.

Everyday support

Practising skills where you use them

Life skills are learned best in real places: your kitchen, your bus route, your bank. Practice is broken into steps, repeated with support and gradually handed over to you.

  1. 1 Cooking and meal planning
  2. 2 Budgeting and managing money
  3. 3 Using public transport
  4. 4 Communication and self-advocacy

  • Can cooking and budgeting be included?
  • How will we review progress without pressure?
