Household Tasks

Household Tasks

Practical help to keep your home comfortable and running smoothly, including cleaning, laundry, meal preparation and routine upkeep, with as much or as little involvement from you as you would like. Tasks, timing and how tasks are done are agreed with you first, so your home stays your own.

Household Tasks

Household support in Brisbane that fits your routines

The right approach depends on what the participant needs that day and what they want to build over time. Some situations call for direct assistance; others create opportunities to practise steps, establish routines or take on more of a task with support nearby. For more service options, explore our NDIS supports or get support. For an overview of eligibility, plans and funded supports, read the official NDIS overview.

What good looks like

Signs household support is working for you

Home feels manageable

Everyday tasks are managed without taking over your week. We agree which tasks matter most and how often support is useful.

Done your way

Your preferences for how tasks are done are followed. Products, routines, privacy and cultural preferences can be discussed before support starts.

Skills grow where wanted

You take on more yourself if that is your goal. A worker can do tasks with you, not simply for you, when that is your preference.

What it can look like

What household support can look like

For example, a participant might want help with laundry and vacuuming once a week and to learn how to plan simple meals. The worker handles agreed tasks and works side by side on the cooking.

  1. 1 Clear list of agreed tasks
  2. 2 Learning built in where wanted
  3. 3 Your home, your way

Example only. The right arrangement depends on the participant’s goals, circumstances, funding where relevant, suitability, availability and what Bright Heart Co can confirm.

Everyday support

A home that runs the way you like

Household support covers the tasks that keep a home comfortable and safe, done the way you prefer. Some people want tasks done for them; others want to learn or share the work.

  1. 1 Cleaning, tidying and laundry
  2. 2 Meal planning, shopping and cooking
  3. 3 Keeping up household routines such as bins and everyday tidying (budgeting and appointment skills are discussed separately)
  4. 4 Learning tasks step by step if you want to

Household Tasks: questions to discuss

Use these as a starting point. You can begin with the main question about household support; the remaining details can be worked through with you.

  • Do I supply cleaning products and equipment?
  • Can I work alongside the support worker?
  • What tasks are outside the agreed arrangement?
  • How do we review the time needed for household tasks?

These answers cover household-task scope, products and participation. Contact the team if your own circumstances need a more specific response.

What household tasks can be discussed?

Common tasks include cleaning, laundry, meal preparation and shopping. The specific routines and tasks are agreed around the participant’s needs, goals, preferences and plan.

Will support take over tasks I want to do myself?

Support should look for opportunities to preserve or build participant involvement rather than automatically taking over.

Can routines be changed?

Yes. Household routines can be reviewed as needs, preferences or living circumstances change.

How are safety and boundaries managed?

Tasks should be completed within agreed responsibilities, safe work practices and the participant’s service arrangement.
